Even though the UK is now opening up, there are still plenty of question marks when it comes to travelling abroad. Many countries are requiring people to have had both vaccinations and to buy a coronavirus test kit. UK destinations, however, shouldn’t be ignored completely as alternative holiday destinations, as there are plenty of great places you can visit without leaving the country. Here are our top picks for staycation spots that you should consider.
Cornwall
Cornwall is home to plenty of stunning beaches, great surfing, and some wonderful coastal walking routes, and for you it’s probably only a day’s driving away! There’s something for everyone in the Cornish county, such as wonderful towns like St. Ives, and the incredible Eden Project. Don’t miss out on the fish and chips either!
Devon
Like its neighbour Cornwall, Devon is home to many stunning beaches and countryside walks, and you should definitely consider visiting if you’re looking for a quieter alternative to Cornwall. The southern Jurassic Coast is home to many different fossils from a bygone era, and a walk down the beach can be great for teaching kids about dinosaurs.
The Lake District
The Lake District is potentially the most beautiful place in the whole country, and is an absolute dream for anybody who loves hiking. The beautiful landscapes have inspired countless authors, such as Beatrix Potter, and will probably inspire you as well! There’s plenty of campsites, caravan parks, and lodges that can be hired for you to stay in as well.
Edinburgh
If a city break is more your style, then perhaps you should consider Edinburgh. Scotland’s capital is a city that is full of history and culture, and mustn’t be missed. The city is overlooked by an absolutely amazing castle on the hill, and there’s plenty of shopping, eating, and drinking to be done in the city as well. The world famous Edinburgh tramline will get you around the city in style as well!
London
We couldn’t really make this list without mentioning London, arguably one of the greatest cities in the world. There’s so much to do in London that we can’t hope to list it all here, but if you do decide to stay in London then there’s absolutely no way you’ll be bored. Galleries, museums, theatres, and amazing restaurants are located all over the city, and you’ll be able to visit all of them by just hopping on the Tube!
Brighton
This city on the south coast is the home of the Pride celebrations in the UK, and has a wonderfully lively atmosphere that needs to be seen to be believed. Whether it’s getting lost shopping in the Lanes, or heading down to the Pier to try out the rides, there’s so much fun to be had in Brighton.
The Isle of Wight
The southern island is best known for its huge music festival, but beyond that it’s still a classic holiday destination. Scenic seaside towns, costal cliffsides and lovely beaches make this a definitive pick on our list. The island is quite small, so you can easily get around and do everything you want in one trip. And the best part? It takes less than half an hour to get there from the mainland.
Stay Safe this Summer!
Even if you’re not travelling abroad, you should make sure to keep yourself safe from the spread of coronavirus. Make sure you travel with plenty of masks and a coronavirus test kit. UK government officials are advising that you remain cautious of the spread of COVID, so make sure it doesn’t ruin your staycation.
