Random acts of kindness aren’t just enjoyable to receive but also to give! It can be just as enjoyable to do something nice for someone as it is to be on the receiving end. What better time to try out acts of service than the holiday season? Here are some of the best ideas for kind gestures to try out this year.
Give Someone Money
All too often we walk by people asking for donations in the street and ignore them entirely. It’s easy to find excuses for why you shouldn’t. Perhaps you don’t have any cash, or maybe you’re in a hurry. What if you were to donate just one day this year? Make a commitment to ditch the excuses the next time someone is asking for money. Find a store that has an ATM, and take out cash. Chances are you’ll feel wonderful walking away knowing that you made a difference in someone’s life with only a few bucks.
Bake Something For Someone
Baking for yourself can be wonderful. Whether it’s on the holidays, or for a dessert with friends, there’s nothing like enjoying something fresh out of the oven. However, when is the last time you bake something for someone else just because? This year, consider baking something and bringing it to someone who needs their day brightened. Whether it’s your child at school, or your neighbor, give them something warm out of your oven and they’ll surely smile with joy.
Buy The Person Behind You a Coffee
Next time you’re standing in line to buy a coffee at Starbucks, turn around and offer to buy the person’s coffee behind you. Chances are they’ll probably decline initially, but don’t take no for an answer. Insist and pass on the art of paying it forward. You never know, they could wind up paying for the person behind them too. Generosity breeds more generosity in many cases!
Help Someone Move
One of the biggest tasks that anyone can take on is moving to a new house. Think of all the times when you moved, and someone was there to help you out. Make a commitment this season to help someone else out who’s moving.
Don’t know anybody that’s moving? No problem! Go on a community forum, or simply post on Facebook and ask if anybody is moving anytime soon. Offer your services for free, and you’ll find that you get plenty of people willing to take your offer.
Volunteer
This year choose a volunteer opportunity that sparks your interest and get involved however you can. It’s not only a great way to make a difference in others’ lives, but you may even make some new friends doing it too! There are many different volunteer opportunities to try out. From volunteering in a soup kitchen to helping out older community members, do some research on different ways that you can help and spread the joy this season!
