Keeping your house clean requires time and effort, but the rewards are priceless. Who wants to live in a house with dirty furniture, dishes and rooms? When we leave our furniture dirty, dusty, stained or riddled with pet dander, the chances are high that it will not last long. It will deteriorate a lot faster, making you spend more money on buying new things for the house. So how can you keep your summer house furniture squeaky clean? Here are some tips.
Vacuum
If you vacuum your furniture – especially the sofa – on a regular basis, you eliminate dirt, dust and hair that can cause respiratory illnesses such as asthma and allergies. The couch is one of the most often used furniture items besides beds, and it gets dirty very quickly, especially with pets. The dirt that accumulates on the couch can speed up its deterioration. Cleaning it gives it a longer lifespan.
Wipe
If you spill any liquid on fabric, wooden or iron furniture, wipe it with a clean and dry cloth right away. This will prevent the liquid from seeping into the material and staining the surface. Also, dab the spill, don’t rub it, as it will only spread and worsen the stain if there is one already.
Wash
There are some pieces of furniture that you can wash without worrying about water and soap damaging the material. Plastic furniture is usually washable, so even if it gets dirty, you can run some water over it and make it clean again. Do not use any strong chemicals. Mild soap and warm water with a soft brush or cloth will do.
You must also wash bed sheets, pillowcases and blankets on a regular basis to prevent any dirt from accumulating on them and eventually transferring to the bed. You can change your covers as often as you want, but at least three times a month should suffice.
Cover
One thing you can do to protect your couch is to cover it. Sweat can seep and transfer into a fabric sofa, so putting a cover on top of it will not stain the couch with sweat and other liquids. Slipcovers are also a lot easier to clean than the sofa itself. You can just pop them in the washer, and they’ll be good to go.
Avoid direct sunlight
Do not place a piece of furniture in direct sunlight, as the heat can damage it quickly. Wooden furniture can fade easily if exposed to direct sunlight every single day. Choose a spot for your furniture away from the sunlight.
You don’t have to spend too much money on expensive and harsh cleaning materials for your furniture. You can find the best cleaning agents in your kitchen cupboard. They are natural and milder than chemical cleaners. Before doing any cleaning of your furniture, consult the care instructions that came with it first. You don’t want to ruin a perfect leather couch with an inappropriate cleaner, do you?
