In late 2019, the IRS released its 2018-2022 Strategic Plan. This plan illustrates the IRS’s 2019 fiscal annual report, and outlines their strategic vision for the next few years. The experts at Optima Tax Relief reviews the salient points of the Annual Report and provide context for what it all means for the millions of American taxpayers as we head into tax season.
The IRS’s strategic plan shares the vision and goals of the IRS as it relates to all taxpayers. The plan clearly outlines six key pillars that will serve as the roadmap for the IRS’s strategic initiatives over the next handful of years. The Internal Revenue Service’s Strategic Plan will guide the IRS, under the leadership of IRS Commissioner Chuck Retting, through their decision making process relative to resources, programs, and operations to better serve all American taxpayers.
These goals include:
Goal 1: Empower and enable all taxpayers to meet their tax obligations
Goal 2: Protect the integrity of the tax system by encouraging compliance through administering and enforcing the tax code
Goal 3: Collaborate with external partners proactively to improve tax administration
Goal 4: Cultivate a well-equipped, diverse, flexible and engaged workforce
Goal 5: Advance data access, usability and analytics to inform decision-making and improve operational outcomes
Goal 6: Drive increased agility, efficiency, effectiveness and security in IRS operations
These six strategic goals encapsulate the IRS’s strategic priorities and will serve as the guiding principles to move the IRS forward over the coming years – as they work towards the overarching goal of delivering an enhanced taxpayer experience to each and every American taxpayer.
