The Coalition
ServiceNation seeks to rekindle an ethic of civic responsibility in America through universal national service. We believe every American who wants to serve their country in national service should have the opportunity to do so and are working towards the day when a term of national service is a common experience that unites Americans and tackles our nation’s pressing challenges.
The ServiceNation Coalition is comprised of organizations that are united in support for universal national service. Nationally, the coalition has more than 300 members in 26 states. To join, please fill out the Coalition Request Form or contact Morgan St. Jean with any questions at mstjean@servicenation.org or (202) 644-8415.
The ServiceNation Coalition strives to:
- Unite the core – Convene existing stakeholders of national service at the local level for strategy and planning.
- Broaden the base – Recruit others who support national service such as veterans, faith-based, and student groups.
- Take local action – Mobilize supporters of national service into a powerful unified voice for action year-round.
To achieve these goals we:
- Educate political leaders about the impact of national service in their districts and states so they are more likely to support it.
- Elevate national service as a serious strategy for addressing many of our nation’s most pressing challenges.
- Diversify sources of public funding for national service programs.
Responsibilities of Coalition Members:
- Identify a point person - Your Coalition liaison will represent your organization and be our primary point of contact.
- Stay informed - ServiceNation will provide regular updates on political and policy developments.
- Support local efforts – There will be times for planning and action. We ask Coalition members to get involved as much as they can.
The Benefits to Joining:
- Resources and Support - We understand you have a full plate running your program. We do everything we can to make participating in local advocacy efforts as easy as possible.
- A Seat at the Table - ServiceNation believes that the national service community’s best way to build political support is through its strongest asset – the people and programs in the trenches all across the country. Through the Coalition, you have the opportunity to shape the strategy and focus of local advocacy efforts.
- Recognition - Your organization will be listed on the ServiceNation Website as a Coalition member. Your organization may be featured in communications to members of Congress and the press about the impact of national service.
There is no financial commitment for joining the Coalition. We ask instead for your active participation. Because we’re focused on local action, we ask any national organizations to have a staff member from their local sites serve as the Coalition point person.
