Mission Serve Veterans Day 11/11/11
Through our Mission Serve initiative, ServiceNation seeks to establish Veterans Day as a day of service and celebration. By serving in honor of veterans and alongside military families, civilian communities can show their gratitude and respect for the men and women who serve in uniform.
Veterans Day 11/11/11
ServiceNation organized eleven civilian-military service projects across the country to provide opportunities for the civilian and military communities to join together in service. Projects high-level guest participants from the public, private, and non-profit sectors joining together to help revitalize community infrastructure, enhance learning opportunities at local schools, repair crumbling buildings, and other community projects. Each event was sponsored by a corporate partner and featured local non-profit organizations serving as project managers.
Notable participants included General Stanley McChrystal, Senator Lisa Murkowski, Yankees manager Joe Girardi, the cast of Hawaii Five-O, Brandon Routh, Megan Fox, Laird Hamilton, Gabby Reece, and many, many others
All told, the events the events secured nearly 4,500 volunteer hours and reached an estimated 85 million Americans through news coverage and social media conversations.

“Last Veterans Day, Jill and I helped launch Mission Serve—a national network that brings civilian and military service groups together to help support our troops and families. But this network also encourages communities to tap that incredible spirit of service of our military families, as well as the talents of our veterans.”
- First Lady Michelle Obama, January 26, 2010

“There is a sea of goodwill out there, made up of people, places, programs, all eagerly seeking and serving those in need. Our challenge, however, lies in connecting these programs, not only to those who need help, but to each other. And you’re doing that… That is why ServiceNation is so important.”
- Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen, September 12, 2008

“The idea behind ServiceNation: Mission Serve, an initiative strongly supported by the First Lady and Dr. Biden, is simple, but truly inspirational…. Catherine and I both have friends back in Britain who could benefit from a brilliant initiative like this.”
