Celebrating Veterans Day in Tampa Bay

ServiceNation: Mission Serve is preparing for Veterans Day by planning 11 high profile service projects in 11 cities across the country on 11/11/11.  We hope to establish Veterans Day as a national day of service and celebration and bring the civilian and military communities together through service.  With the support of our national corporate sponsor Bank of America, ServiceNation: Mission Serve is partnering with Quantum Leap Farm, Inc. and two major joint US military commands in the Tampa area:  United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and United States Central Command (CENTCOM) for a service project in Odessa, Florida.

Quantum Leap Farm, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that enhances the lives of handicapped adults through equestrian therapy. While Odessa, Florida is home to numerous equestrian programs that serve children with mental and physical disabilities, the Quantum Leap Farm is unique because its program is targeted at adults. Serving individuals from ages 2 to 92, the Quantum Leap Farm looks to improve the physical, mental and social well-being of its participants.

We will be joined in service by service members and military family members from SOCOM and CENTCOM. SOCOM is the military unit that oversees the special operations commands of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. SOCOM became a part of the Department of Defense to enhance command and control over inter-service coordination. CENTCOM is one of 10 combatant commands in the United States military. Located between the European and Pacific combatant commands, CENTCOM covers the "central" area of the globe and consists of 20 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Syria.

The Tampa event will be the culmination of a two-part restoration project for the farm’s stables. The volunteers will remove, sand and paint the stable doors, as well as repair the farm’s corral gates. It gives us such great pleasure to be joined by so many supporters and partners in Odessa, Florida to commemorate Veterans Day as a national day of service and celebration.
