MLK Day Service Event at Simon Elementary

ServiceNation, Heart of America Foundation, City Year DC, and DC Cares partnered for a historic day of service to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr during Inauguration weekend. Sponsored by Target, this service day brought together over 300 volunteers from across the nation to transform the Simon Elementary School in Anacostia, DC.
Volunteers spent the day painting classrooms and hallways, creating murals, and renovating the school library. Heart of America lead the effort to renovate the school library—including restocking the bookshelves with new books for the students. To kick off the service project, volunteers joined the award winning Ballou High School band in a march to the Simon Elementary School.
