We Can End This! Hunger In America, That Is…
Subscribe to the Blog RSS FeedWe here at BTC believe deeply in the power of coalition. It's a major force multiplier, and makes big, bold goals possible. And who doesn't like big, bold goals?
That's why we are excited by the debut of a major hunger relief initiative called We Can End This, which has pulled together an excellent core group of organizations, including ServiceNation superstars Share Our Strength and Feeding America, as well as Capital Area Food Bank Of Texas. The goal: feed the 49 million Americans who are hungry.
We Can End This will be fully launched March 15, and it relies on massive citizen action (which is, of course, the key to really getting things done in America). You can read all about the big picture, and the campaign's timeline, right here. But there are a couple things happening right now if you want to dive in right away.
First, if you promise to take and action by March 18 (donate, volunteer, or spread the word), WCET will send a virtual food can to the state of your choice. The 10 states that have received the most virtual cans will each receive enough food for 150,000 meals, courtesy of Tyson Foods Hunger Relief. Here is where things stand right now. To take action and put your state in the running for the meals, go here.
Second, if the action you choose to take is to make a donation, the ConAgra Foods Foundation will match the first $25,000. More leverage, more impact. That's the way to get things done.
This is an exciting, and oh-so-necessary, initiative and it is winning a lot of notice (which will help it build momentum). You can follow on Twitter, and Facebook, or by RSS. And if you have any doubt that this is something important, and worthy of your time and energy, Share Our Strength has this to say. The numbers are from 2007, so watch and imagine how much worse it is in today's economic crisis:
