It's not the Oscars, or the Nobel Prize. But in our world of service it's nice to recognize Americans who exemplify the ideal of service that we here at ServiceNation believe can change the future.

So it's nice that the Corporation For National And Community Service takes time each year to honor volunteers who are doing great work. It's called the Spirit Of Service Award and the Corporation is now taking nominations for 2010 (the winners will receive their award at this year's National Conference on Volunteering and Service, which will take place in New York City June 28-30.

Here's what the Corporation says about the award and how you can make a nomination:

Do you know someone who has made a
big difference in his or her community?

The Corporation for National and Community Service is committed to recognizing and celebrating outstanding service by their volunteers and members. The Spirit of Service Awards pay tribute to the most outstanding participants in each of the Corporation’s programs - including Senior Corps, AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve America.

Awards will be presented to the winners during special ceremonies at the 2010 National Conference on Volunteering and Service, June 28-30, in New York City. Nominations are currently being sought through April 12, 2010. Nominees must exemplify the spirit of national service, demonstrate exceptional service or leadership, and serve as role models for others in their community. Nominations should include information about the impact of the nominee's service.

You can get inspired to make a nomination by reading all about last year's winners here. The deadline for submitting a nomination is April 12, and if you have any questions the Corporation will be hosting a conference call next Tuesday:
