One of the reasons 9/11 is well on its way to becoming one of the major annual service days in America is that it is getting the full support of the Corporation For National And Community Service, via the excellent  Serve.Gov website.

9/11

To help Americans create service projects, and find service projects to volunteer for, Serve.gov has created a 9/11 National Day Of Service resource page. It's an excellent place to go to learn about how you can get involved by serving on Sept. 11, and one of the very cool initiatives it promotes is a partnership with Scholastic to create materials and lesson plans for students around the meaning and importance of 9/11.

Click here to watch our friend, and MyGoodDeed co-founder, David Paine, explain what it's all about (sorry, no embed!). There is also a resource page for teachers, where you can download lesson plans geared toward helping students understand and "Remember the 9/11 Spirit Of Service."

So, are you ready to serve on 9/11? You can create your own service project and register it here (it will become part of the searchable national 9/11 service project database). Or, if you would like to volunteer for an existing service project, you can search for one near you with this handy-dandy widget:
