Ripples: Sept. 11 National Day Of Service and Remembrance
Subscribe to the Blog RSS FeedIt was an extraordinary day, defined by service, tribute and remembrance of those whom we lost, and those who stepped forward, on a tragic day in American history. Here are some of the ripples I have seen over the past few days:
1) ServiceNation ambassador Cameron Diaz was out serving. She has been an incredible supporter.
2) More than 500 students and members of the Bowdoin community turned out to clear trails in the Bradbury Mountain State Park. Watch a little vid the students made, here.
3) United Way swung into action in Knoxville, Tenn., kicking off its annual funding drive, which benefits 45 local agencies, including the American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Tennessee Valley, Volunteer Ministry Center, Salvation Army, InterFaith Health Clinic and Second Harvest Food Bank, to name only a few.
4) ServiceNation partner Western NY AmeriCorps teamed up with Hands On Greater Buffalo and Home Depot to complete a Hands On Schools project at the Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School. And they posted some sweet video:
5) Mayors from across the nation joined NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg to launch the Cities of Service initiative (nice photoset here):
Ashton Kutcher was there, too (and, no, he is not a Mayor)
6) Last, but not least, ServiceNation and My Good Deed co-hosted a special evening tribute that featured Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as a keynoter, as well as Gary Sinise and other stars. It was an inspiring evening, and here are a few pics (full set is here).
