iPhone Apps for Good
Subscribe to the Blog RSS FeedSpend way too much time playing with your iPhone applications, or simply overwhelmed by how many there are to choose from? Well, the Huffington Post has compiled a list of five applications that can help you help make the world a better place.
First, there's the Seafood Watch App, launched by the Monterey Bay Aquarium. This cool little download will tell you what fish will taste best in different areas of the country and what types of fish to eat that will help you be sustainable. This one's cool because it's useful in everyday life and keeps you from feeling guilty about going out to dinner -- after all, you're being sustainable!

The second app that the HuffPo recommends is Give Work. A cool free download, you're asked to do simple tasks like looking at a website and categorize it. When you do, a refugee in Kenya will do the same task (for quality assurance purposes) and will get paid to do so. So, download away and help provide jobs for refugees.

One Mindful Act is another cool app that you can download and use to make your world a better place. Make it your goal to do one mindful act every day -- their example is get regular coffee instead of a latte -- to help cut down on your waste and spending. When you've reached a goal, donate the money to charity. They've even got a convenient "pass-it-on" button right in the app.

Ever have a few extra dollars and want to give it to a local charity? Charity Finder will allow you to search for nonprofits and charitable organizations by cause and by category and will allow you to save your recent searches. Find 'em then support 'em!

Last but not least, here's an app--called Clear Standards-- that will help you lower your carbon footprint. Keep track of where you're going and how you get there. You can also track your yearly carbon footprint, set goals and find ways to keep your footprint low.
