Helping Chile

Chile's earthquake, in terms of raw numbers, was not as devastating as the earthquake which struck Haiti in January. But for thousands of Chileans who lost family members or homes, it was as devastating as any earthquake can be. International organizations are once again scrambling to try and help Chile cope with the destruction. And if you would like to help, the quickest action you can take is to make a donation by text. Here are some organizations that have set up text donation programs:

Salvation Army: Text CHILE to 52000 to give $10.

International Red Cross: Text CHILE to 90999 to give $10.

World Vision: Text CHILE to 20222 to give $10.

And here is a list of relief organizations that are in action in Chile, and can use any financial help you are able to offer:

Our ServiceNation partner, Habitat For Humanity, has built 3,500 homes in Chile since 1998, and is rapidly gearing up to help provide shelter for families who lost their homes in the earthquake.

AmeriCares is organizing emergency response teams to bring medical personnel and supplies to the earthquake zone.

Doctors Without Borders has already landed its first medical team.

Save The Children is also moving quickly with an emergency response.

Shelter Box, an organization dedicated to rapid disaster response, has a team on the way.

Oxfam is sending water engineers and logisticians.

The Salvation Army in Chile is already distributing food, water, first aid kits, emergency packets, blankets, candles and other urgently required supplies.

This is just a quick, partial list, and there are many other organizations planning critical relief work for Chile. Anything you can do to support them (and spread the word) will be much appreciated and make a big difference for Chileans as they work to recover from this devastating earthquake.
