Great Additions to the ServiceNation Coalition
In October, we were excited to welcome three organizations into the ServiceNation coalition. And now, we’d like to welcome five more: Civic Assets, Playworks, Surfrider Foundation, Volunteer Los Angeles and Warrior Gateway! ServiceNation has been privileged to work in partnership with several of these organizations on past projects and initiatives and we are excited to make their membership into the coalition official. And as we start making our plans for 2012, we are excited to work closely with all coalition members new and old!
Without further ado, we’d like to introduce our newest members:
Civic Assets
Civic Assets works to reintegrate returning veterans, specifically those with traumatic brain injuries or post traumatic stress, into society. They provide veterans with work in domestic services and coordinate their health care. Additionally, returning veterans are enrolled into a college or vocational school where they are given assistance when they are ready to locate an internship. While providing these vast array of services, Civic Assets conducts cutting edge research on the correlation between service and brain rehabilitation.
Playworks
Playworks is a national nonprofit organizations that supports learning by providing safe, healthy and inclusive play and physical activity to schools at recess and throughout the entire school day. The organization sends full-time, trained program coordinators to low-income, urban schools, where recess is transformed into a positive experience. The program assists students and teachers get the most out of every learning opportunity. Quality playtime is essential to child development. The Playworks program is focused on five essential areas: Recess Time, Leadership Development, Class Game Time, Interscholastic/Developmental Sports Leagues and Out-of-School Time Programs. The Playworks Mission is to improve the health and well-being of children by increasing opportunities for physical activitiy and safe, meaningful play. Most recently, Playworks CEO and Founder, Jill Vialet, was named by Forbes Magazine as one of the 30 most influential social entrepreneurs.
Surfrider Foundation
The Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit grassroots organization founded in 1984 by a handful of surfers in Malibu, California. The mission of the Surfrider Foundation is the protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network. The Foundation maintains over 50,000 members and 90 chapters worldwide. The Hawaii Chapter works towards the preservation and enjoyment of Hawaii’s ocean, waves and beaches through conservation, activism, research and care (CARE).
ServiceNation is happy to welcome these organizations into our coalition. They each bring unique qualities and characteristics that will strengthen our coalition’s efforts to promote national service in America. ServiceNation wants to thank them for their hard work and efforts, along with the rest of our coalition members.
Volunteer Los Angeles
Founded in 1951, Volunteer Los Angeles is a a service of Assistance League of Southern California, committed to building a strong network of people who believe volunteer action creates needed change and elevates our sense of community. Volunteer Los Angeles provides a direct connection between volunteers and nonprofit organizations and government agencies where they can serve. It has grown into the largest volunteer centers in the nation. The organization supports more than 800 nonprofits and public agencies across LA. Volunteer Los Angeles believes in the power of partnership and collaboration by bringing strategic human capital to organizations.
Warrior Gateway
Warrior Gateway is a non-profit program composed of a broad coalition of partners and sponsors that promotes easier reintegration for military servicemembers into home communities. It acts as a resource for military communities to quickly locate and connect with local service organizations in the area. Additionally, it helps to identify the academic programs servicemembers are interested in and helps to find employers seeking their unique skills.
