Dallas Celebrates Veterans Day with a Day of Service
Subscribe to the Blog RSS FeedAs Veterans Day approaches, ServiceNation: Mission Serve is busy planning 11 high profile service projects in 11 cities across the country on 11/11/11. The “Veterans Day 11/11/11” project is a national call to service and is designed to establish Veterans Day as a day of service and celebration. Through the support of our corporate sponsor Dell, ServiceNation is partnering with the USO and the Volunteer Center of North Texas to engage youth and military families for a day of service at the East Dallas Boys and Girls Club.
The East Dallas Boys and Girls Club affords young people the opportunity to reach their full potential as responsible citizens. The club has specifically created programs in five core areas: Education and Career Development, Character and Leadership Development, Health and Life Skills, the Arts and Sports, and Fitness and Recreation. These educational programs are designed to save the lives of youth.
The Volunteer Center of North Texas has been partnered with thousands of nonprofit organizations and volunteers over the past 40 years. The mission of the Volunteer Center of North Texas is to transform communities and strengthen nonprofits through volunteerism. The Volunteer Center has been a source for countless volunteers who want to help a variety of nonprofit organizations.
The Volunteer Center of North Texas and the East Dallas Boys and Girls Club will host a Mission Serve Veterans Day service project on 11/11/11 in Dallas. Dell employees will serve as volunteers and represent the civilian community. These civilians will join together with the military veterans and family members—organized by the USO—for a day of service and celebration. The East Dallas Boys and Girls Club is in need of maintenance and repairs. The Club is important to the community and is a safe haven for many of the community’s children.
Volunteers will revitalize the Boys and Girls Club facilities by helping to prime and paint murals in the gym, paint blackboards, build and stain benches, repaint tables and doors, paint murals on the ceiling tiles, re-strip the parking lot, re-stain the fence, beautify the front yard, paint the exterior walls, and clean and sanitize all surfaces. Additionally, volunteers will also read with the children--acting as a “reading buddy” to improve their skills.
It gives us such great pleasure to be joined by Dell, the USO, the Volunteer Center of North Texas, the East Dallas Boys and Girls Club to commemorate Veterans Day as a national day of service and celebration.
