Beautification Project at the California Veterans Home- West Los Angeles for 11/11/11

As Veterans Day approaches, ServiceNation: Mission Serve is busy planning 11 high profile service projects in 11 cities across the country on 11/11/11.  The “Veterans Day 11/11/11” project is a national call to service and is designed to establish Veterans Day as a day of service and celebration. Through the support of our corporate sponsor Bank of America, ServiceNation is partnering with the Pat Tillman Foundation, Student Veterans of America, California Veterans Home- West Los Angeles and Volunteer Los Angeles to perform a beautification project at the California Veterans Home- West Los Angeles.

The Pat Tillman Foundation provides educational scholarship and resources to support veterans, active servicemembers and their dependents. The Pat Tillman Foundation was established by friends and family of Pat Tillman following his death in 2004. He put his NFL career on hold with the Arizona Cardinals to serve with the US Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan. The mission is to invest in veterans and their families through education and community. One of the Foundations Programs is the Tillman Military Scholars which helps to remove financial barriers for active and veteran servicemembers and their families to complete a degree program.

The Student Veterans of America recognize the difficulties associated with gaining a degree. They do, however, recognize that achieving academic success in higher education is attainable and will further lead to gainful employment upon graduation. The mission of Student Veterans of America is to provide military veterans with the resources, support and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education and following graduation.

The Volunteer Los Angeles is a volunteer management organization. The network helps to connect volunteers with governmental, public and nonprofit organizations who  need volunteers. The network helps to make positive transformations in the community through volunteerism. Its mission changes lives and communities by connecting volunteers with community needs to make Los Angeles a safer, greener, healthier, happier, more hopeful place to live.

The California Veterans Home-West Los Angeles is the largest Veterans Home of California in the Los Angeles County. It acts as a long term health facility for California’s Veterans. It gives us such great pleasure to be joined by Bank of America, the Pat Tillman Foundation, Student Veterans of America, and the Volunteer Center of Los Angeles at the California Veterans Home- West Los Angeles to commemorate Veterans Day as a national day of service and celebration.
