A Call to Save Service
With the strong efforts put forth on District Day, August 10, 2011, we are asking for citizens to continue to demand the necessity to protect for the funding for the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). On August 10, service supporters around the country made more than 2,100 visits to our Members of Congress to stress the importance of CNCS funding.
The Corporation for National and Community Service funding supports the work of nonprofit organizations. These organizations help to improve individual lives while strengthening entire communities across our great nation. With the recent passing of 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, it is important for everyone to continue to recognize and advocate on behalf of the importance of service.
After Labor Day, Congress will return to Washington and resume discussions about how to implement the debt deal and identify $3 trillion worth of cuts to our nation’s budget. Congressional appropriators will debate and pass funding bills for fiscal year 2012. While on a parallel track, the newly formed “Super Committee” must craft a proposal to eliminate $1.5 trillion in federal spending. This group of 12 lawmakers has nearly unprecedented power, and we need to call on them to protect the federal investment in the Corporation for National and Community Service.
As a result, we need assistance in our effort to protect CNCS funding. Here’s how you can help:
- Sign up and pledge to make the call. Show Congress how effectively the service community mobilizes.
- Call 1-855-US-SERVE (1-855-877-3783) to tell your Senators and your Representatives about why they must vote to Save Service.
By visiting Save Service you will find the tools necessary to make the call. You will be provided with a Phone Script and Talking Points in order to complete the call. All programs under the Corporation for National and Community Service face devastating cuts in Congress in these tough economic times. But, now is when our nation should invest in these programs. These programs will provide efficient and effective ways to create jobs, deliver results, and strengthen communities.
Encourage friends and family members to make the call. Together, we can make a difference! Additionally, you can find other information using your social media channels. Visit our Facebook Page and follow @SaveService on twitter for updates and more!
The future of service is not totally in the hands of Congress yet. By taking the pledge and joining us, you are able to let your voice be heard. You will be able to help make sure that Congress chooses to save the funding for the Corporation for National and Community Service.
