ServiceNation Announces Partnership Effort with Facebook
Subscribe to the Blog RSS FeedAt its heart, the service movement is about enabling everyday Americans to change people's lives by working in their own communities or joining new ones. ServiceNation and Facebook have teamed up in an effort to connect millions of Americans with volunteer opportunities around the country.
Facebook awarded ServiceNation a $500,000 grant to expand the groups’ existing partnership. Facebook’s grant will encourage users of the social network to learn more about service opportunities through ServiceNation’s Facebook Page (Facebook.com/ServiceNation) and connect with MyNation, a new, online social-networking community on ServiceNation.org being launched in preparation for the first National Day of Service on September 11, 2009.
At MyNation, you can:
· Create a personal homepage, sharing your story of how you have become passionate about service.
· Join or form groups with fellow members. You can connect with people who live near you, people who share a common interest, and just about anyone else!
· Plan service events, send reminder e-mails, and keep track of your RSVPs.
· Write a blog, exchange messages with friends, post your ideas on group pages, and find other ways to share your thoughts and communicate with other members.
· Raise money and invite friends to donate to keep the service movement thriving.
· Write letters to the editor, contact your local legislators, and find other opportunities for activism around service.
· Connect your account to Facebook so that all your friends know what you're doing to help your community.
